About
The City supports the Smart Supplier Programme to help City-registered vendors overcome obstacles and expand their operations. In doing so, we hope to create more job opportunities and a stronger economy for Cape Town.
The programme aids business growth by providing effective engagement with a corporate supply chain. Participants go through a rigorous step-by-step development process to proactively address the daily challenges that small businesses face when trying to access new markets and new business opportunities.
Virtual masterclasses and workshops prepare businesses for an introduction to buyers in their sector of business.
Course modules focus on, among others:
- improving service offering and delivery
- understanding how public and private sector procurement decision processes work;
- how to respond to quotes, tenders, sales, pitch preparation, negotiations; and
- contracting and customer relationship management.
Qualifying criteria
To qualify for the programme you will need to meet the following criteria:
- Your business must be based in Cape Town and owned by a South African citizen
- Your business must have been operational for a minimum of 18 months
- You must be able to handle increased market demands and must have a competitive advantage in the market you trade in
- You must be registered as a supplier on the
City’s Central Supplier Database
- You must be willing and able to attend online training sessions as well as physical networking-buyer matchup sessions.

You will need to provide your CIPC registration forms as proof of ownership.
Successful applicants will be required to complete an Acceptance Agreement, which is a commitment to the programme.
